Msuician Steven Van Zandt To Speak At Rutgers Commencement Ceremony

Rutgers University set to have legendary singer, songwriter, and human rights activist Steven Van Zandt speak at their Commencement Ceremony.

The Commencement Ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 14, at 10 a.m., and will be at High Point Soultions Stadium. The stadium is laocted at  1 Scarlet Knight Way, Piscataway Township, NJ 08854. The event will be outside regardless of rain of shine.

Steven Van Zandt is best known for being one of the founding members of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. He has made his career primalry as a musician but has also stepped into the world of television and broadway. Most notably as Silvio Dante in the HBO series “The Sopranos“.

Van Zandt is also the chair of the Rock and Roll Forever foundation.  Where the goal off the foundation is to offer free educational services for instructors and students. The program is geared primalry toward high school and middle school students.

In order for guests/students to access parking on all campuses in the New Brunswick and Piscataway areas must display special Commencement hangtags. For more information about parking please visit Parking Guidelines.

The stadium will be open to the public at 8 a.m., and shuttle busses from the parking lots will begin at 7 a.m. The ceremonies are open to the public, therefore tickets are not needed for attendance. The stadium does hold 52,454 people, so guests should plan acording a head of time to get preferred seating.

Gloria Steinem To Speak At SVA Commencement Exercises

Gloria Steinem will be the keynote speaker at The School of Visual Arts‘ (SVA) Commencement exercises this year. The exercises will be held at 1 p.m., on Tue, May 9, at Radio City Music Hall, which is located at 1260 6th Ave, New York, NY 10020.

Gloria Steinem is known throughout the world for her work as a writer, artist, lecturer and political activist. More importantly she is also a champion for women’s rights and children’s rights. She also well known for her role in gender equality and co-founded organizations that help raise awareness for those issues, one being URGE, (formerly Choice USA).

Her publishing career starter in the 1970s, where she also co-founded two magazines   Msand New YorkShe has also published books that have gone on to become bestsellers, which include My Life on the Road, Revolution from Within: A Book of Self-Esteem, Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions. 

Due to her success as a writer she has won numerous awards, which include The Society of Writers award, and the James Weldon Johnson award for Journalism. Also she has been given awards as advocate, which include the Bill of Rights Award, The National Gay Rights Adovactes Award, and the Ceres Medal.

In recent years SVA has had many distinguished guests speak at their Commencement exercises such as United States Congressman John Lewis, playwrights Edward Albee and Tony Kushner, and biologist Dr. Gerald Edelman. So it is fitting that they continue with Gloria Steinem.
